Overview
You may notice files with numeric extensions such as .00, .01, .02, or similar appearing in Portfolio watchfolders. This article explains why these files appear and how to prevent them from being ingested.
Cause
Files with numeric extensions are typically created by:
- Split archive utilities: Tools like WinRAR, 7-Zip, or HJSplit split large archives into numbered parts (e.g.,
archive.zip.001,archive.zip.002). - Download managers: Some download managers write temporary numbered segment files while downloading a file, before reassembling the final file.
- Backup software: Certain backup tools create numbered chunks of data as part of their backup process.
- Video editing applications: Some video tools output sequentially numbered render chunks.
If a watchfolder monitors a directory where these files appear, Portfolio will attempt to ingest them as assets.
Solution: Configuring watchfolder exclusions
You can configure Portfolio watchfolders to ignore files with specific extensions:
- Open Portfolio Administration and navigate to Watchfolders.
- Select the affected watchfolder and click Edit.
- In the Exclusions or File Filter settings, add the extensions you want to ignore (e.g.,
.00,.001,.tmp). - Save your changes.
Portfolio will now skip files matching those extensions during watchfolder processing.
Cleaning up already-ingested files
If these files have already been ingested into a catalog, you can find and remove them by searching for assets with those file extensions in the Portfolio client, selecting all results, and deleting the records from the catalog (without deleting the source files, if desired).
