Overview
Antivirus and endpoint security software can interfere with Portfolio's normal operation by scanning, locking, or quarantining files that Portfolio needs to access. Adding the appropriate exclusions ensures stable performance without compromising your security posture.
Recommended exclusions
Configure your antivirus software to exclude the following locations from real-time scanning:
Application and service files
- Windows:
C:\Program Files\Portfolio Server\ - macOS:
/Applications/Portfolio Server/ - The Portfolio Media Engine process (
PortfolioMediaEngine) - The Portfolio Server process (
PortfolioServer)
Database and catalog storage
- The folder containing Portfolio catalog files (
.portfolioextension) - Portfolio's database directory (configured during installation)
- The Portfolio data directory, typically located under
ProgramData\Portfolioon Windows or/Library/Application Support/Portfolioon macOS
Watchfolders
- All folders configured as Portfolio watchfolders should be excluded from real-time scanning. Antivirus scans running during ingestion can cause files to appear corrupt or fail to import.
Symptoms of antivirus interference
If antivirus exclusions are not configured, you may experience:
- Slow or stalled ingestion of assets into watchfolders
- Portfolio Server failing to start or crashing unexpectedly
- Catalog files becoming inaccessible or corrupted
- Timeout errors when connecting clients to the server
Notes
The exact paths may vary depending on your installation options and operating system version. If you are unsure of the correct paths, check the Portfolio Administration panel under Server Settings for the configured data and catalog directories.
If you continue to experience issues after adding exclusions, contact Portfolio DAM Support.
