Map view allows you to filter and view assets that contain valid location information, either a GPS point or a bounding rectangle. To view your assets in relation to the world map, click 
.
In Map view, assets that are geographically close together are shown as a cluster, a colored circle 
with the number of assets. Individual assets are shown as a pin 
.
If you hold the mouse pointer over a cluster without clicking, Portfolio will display a rectangle that shows the area that includes the assets in the cluster. When you click the cluster, Portfolio will zoom in to the bounds of the cluster.

Search bounds
Setting search bounds is the equivalent of search the Portfolio catalog for assets that lie within the bounds. The View, Find, and Sort toolbar shows this in two ways: When a search boundary is in use, the Map view icon changes color 
, and the number of asset within the bounds is displayed.
The search bounds are shown on the map as a blue rectangle with a translucent light blue interior.
To set search bounds, click , then use the center handle to move the bounding box and the corner handles to resize the bounding box. Click Save to set the bounds.

About geographic references
Portfolio has added support for several types of “georeferenced” assets. A georeferenced asset is an asset that contains location information defining where on Earth the asset is positioned.
There are two kinds of location information that Portfolio can utilize with assets: GPS metadata that tells (for example) where a photo was taken, and GIS (Geographic Information System) metadata, that includes position, resolution, and rotation information.
Many digital cameras and most smart phone cameras include GPS location information. Portfolio can pinpoint where a photo was taken on a world map, and let you view a thumbnail for each photo identified this way.
There are several file formats specific to Geographic Information Systems (GIS). These include MrSID, GeoTIFF, and many other formats. GIS files are typically images of a portion of the Earth’s surface, used in scientific, legal, and other fields to precisely identify and display geographic elements. These files include, internally or as auxiliary files, metadata that allows Portfolio to display the image as part of the world map.
