If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Portfolio, see Upgrading.
Before installing Portfolio, be sure to install all the prerequisite software.
For Windows Server you need to install versions 3.5 and 4.5 of the Microsoft .NET Framework. Version 4.5 is usually installed by default, but you should confirm this.
For Windows and macOS you need to install the Adobe DNG Converter.
See System requirements for more information.
When you install Portfolio on your server system, you need to install it under a computer account with specific access.
On Windows, you need to install Portfolio under an account that’s a local administrator, has “Log on as a service” privilege, and has read/write access to all locations with files that you intend to catalog.
The account can be a local system account, but if you will be cataloging assets from any network locations then you need to use a Domain User account.
You should configure a special Domain User account for the Portfolio server before you install Portfolio. Configure this account as follows:
The account should have a password that’s set to never expire.
The account needs to be a member of the local Administrators group, so that it has full control over the Portfolio program directory and system files.
The account must have the Log on as a service privilege in the Local Security Policy console (so that it can run as a Windows service).
The account must have full read/write access to all network locations that contain files that you intend to catalog and make available to users of Portfolio.
During the installation process on Windows, click Options. Choose Domain\User, enter the network login credentials in the form domain\username, then enter the network password for that account and click OK.
If you install Portfolio on a Windows system that holds all the files you intend to catalog and make available to users of Portfolio, you can use a Local System account.
You should configure the local account before you install Portfolio.
The local account needs to be an administrator, so that it has control of the Portfolio program directory and system files.
The local account must have the Log on as a service privilege assigned through the Local Security Policy console.
The account must have full read/write access to all network locations that contain files that you intend to catalog and make available to users of Portfolio.
Planning your Mac installation
On macOS, Portfolio runs under the user account that’s logged in at the time of installation. This user account must have read/write access to all network locations with files that you intend to catalog.
Other things to be aware of:
If you have remote volumes mounted for cataloging, the Portfolio account must remain logged in to the computer for these volumes to be continuously available to Portfolio. (You can lock the computer’s screen, however.)
To drag assets from the Portfolio Desktop client, the client system must be able to mount any remote volumes where you store assets. (This applies only to Watch Folder catalogs.)
If there is a firewall between your Portfolio server and the users that need to connect to it, you must open some ports on the firewall.
If your firewall is on your Portfolio system, you need to open these ports to let others on your network access the server. If your firewall is between your network and the Internet, you need to open these ports to let users outside your network access your server.
You should make sure these ports are open before installing Portfolio. See Ports.
Download the Portfolio installer for your platform from Portfolio 4 Support.
Double-click the installer icon and let it guide you.
Windows users: In the first screen of the installer, click Options and choose whether to install Portfolio to a Local System account or a Domain User account.
At the end of the installation, the Portfolio Administration application automatically opens in your default web browser.
