QuickFind, in the Toolbar at the top of the main window, is a powerful way to search for a word or phrase quickly.

QuickFind only searches on assets in the selected Organizers panel. Selecting a catalog searches the entire catalog, but selecting a gallery only searches the assets in that specific gallery.

To perform a QuickFind search:

1. Select an organizer in the Organizers panel.

2. Type a word or phrase in the QuickFind field and press Enter.

3. Matching assets are displayed in the main window.

To clear the main window of the QuickFind search results, click Clear Results  at the right end of the QuickFind field.

QuickFind details

• All fields: QuickFind searches all fields except Item ID and Date/Time fields; to search in these fields, use Advanced Find.

• Document text: QuickFind even searches the text of cataloged documents!

• Single term: QuickFind will find any word that starts with the entered text. For example, searching for cat will find cat, catalog, and catastrophe, but not scatterbrained.

• Multiple terms: QuickFind will find all words that start with any of the entered terms (logical OR). For example, searching for cat dog will return cats, dogs, cat-dogs, dog-cats, doggone, and catnap, but not hotdog or uncategorical.

• Wildcard: Use the * to stand in for any number of characters (zero or more). For example, searching for *cat will return cat, catastrophe, scatterbrained, dog-cats, and uncategorical.

• Phrases: To search for an exact phrase, put the phrase in double straight quotes.

• Boolean: Use AND in simple searches to find two terms in the same field. For example, searching for cats dogs would return all assets that have either the term cats or the term dogs in any field; searching for cats AND dogs would return only the assets that have both terms. (Each term may be in separate fields, so if an asset has the keyword cats and the description no dogs in this photo, it would be found, but an asset with the keyword cats and the description only cats in this photo would not be found.)

• Single field: You can search specific fields as long as the field name is one word. For example, Keywords:cats will return only assets with the keyword cats. If an asset has cats in every field except Keywords, it will not be returned by this search. (This search requires you to use the system name for a field, which might be different than the name displayed in the Fields panel. Ask your Portfolio Administrator for a list of system field names.)

Unsupported searches

Since QuickFind is designed to be simple and quick, it does not support complex search patterns, such as mixing multiple terms with Boolean searches (cats AND dogs hamsters) or searching in multiple fields (Keywords:cats Filename:dogs).
