Portfolio logs

Portfolio logs

Portfolio logs its performance and error information to assist in support and troubleshooting.

Some log files can grow very large, so you may wish to move them from their default location. To change where log files are saved, see Logs folder.

Extensis Support may ask you to send these log files; to do so, click Status, then click Send Diagnostic Report to Extensis (located in the Diagnostics panel of the Status page).

Extensis Support may ask you to change the amount of diagnostic information that is written to log files. To do this:

  1. Click Global Settings, then click Logging Configuration.

  2. Choose the desired level of information to log from the Log level pop-up menu:

    Error: Logs only error messages.

Info: Logs errors and information about certain other events.

Debug: Logs errors and all events.

Portfolio will also keep a rolling record of log files (saving log files a specified number of days). You may wish to change this to save space, or you may be asked to change this by Extensis Support so they can gather a longer history.

To change the number of historical log files saved:

  1. Click Global Settings, then click Logging Configuration.

  2. Select the number of log files that you want to keep from the Number of logs to retain pop-up menu.

At midnight of each day, Portfolio closes the day’s log files, appends the previous day’s date to the filename, then starts a new log file.
