After you install Portfolio, you will need to license the software through Portfolio Administration before doing anything else.
To start Portfolio Administration, start your browser, then enter the IP address of the server system, followed by :8091 for the port number. For example:
12.34.56.78:8091
If you are running Portfolio Administration from the Portfolio system, you can use
localhost:8091
To log in, enter the user name administrator and the password password.
You can request a 30-day free trial of Portfolio to assess Portfolio’s features. To request a trial, fill out the form at https://www.extensis.com/request-a-trial-portfolio/. A representative from Extensis will contact you.
To license the trial version:
Start the Portfolio Administration application and log in.
Click Status on the left.
Click Try Portfolio for a limited time with a Demo Serial Number.
Enter the license codes that you received from Extensis and click Add Licenses.
To activate your installation of Portfolio, you need to enter an email address and password one time.
Start the Portfolio Administration application and log in.
Click Status on the left.
Click Activate Portfolio with your Extensis credentials.
In the Set Extensis Account dialog, enter the Email and Password of your License Administrator and click Set Account. (For more information, see The License Administrator.)
Portfolio will contact Extensis to look up your Portfolio license information and activate your installation of Portfolio.
If your organization has several purchases of Portfolio with the same License Administrator, you will need to select the appropriate one from a list and click Save.
Your organization can license more user seats, a higher asset count, or other features for your Portfolio installation.
Contact your Customer Success Manager for information about what’s available for your installation.
You can also follow the link Click to upgrade the Portfolio Server link in the Status panel, then submit a request for details about other features that are available for your installation of Portfolio.
Once you add other features, they will be available in your Portfolio installation automatically.
Refreshing your activation
If some newly added features don’t appear in your Portfolio installation, you can refresh your activation. This requires an internet connection.
To refresh your activation:
Open the Portfolio Administration application.
Click Status on the left.
Click the email address for your License Administrator in the Account section of the Status panel.
Enter the License Administrator Password.
Click Set Account.
For new licenses, the License Administrator is the person designated as your organization’s contact when you order Portfolio from Extensis or an authorized reseller.
For Portfolio upgrades, the License Administrator is the person who registered your current license.
If you need to find or change your License Administrator, please use this form: https://help.extensis.com/hc/en-us/requests/new/. Enter this information:

If your Portfolio system is behind a firewall that’s usually not allowed open access to the Internet, you need to permanently open port 443 in your firewall.
Portfolio requires this open connection to the Internet to confirm licensing.
You should change the Portfolio Administrator password as soon after installation as possible. This prevents unauthorized users from making changes to your server configuration.
To change the administrator password:
Click Users.
From the list of users, select administrator.
In the Account pane, enter a new password into the Password field.
Click Apply.
