Galleries
A gallery can display any subset of the assets in your catalog.
A gallery is a good way to organize and view only certain assets in your catalog. For example, a photographer may create a catalog of his entire body of work, but have one gallery that displays only portrait photos, and another gallery that contains landscape photos.
Public, private, and read-only settings
By default, galleries are private: only the user that creates a gallery can access or modify it. Galleries can be made public so that they are available to all users of a catalog. If you choose to make your gallery public, you can restrict changes to that gallery by making it read-only to other users.
If a public gallery is not read-only, any catalog member can choose to be notified any time a change is made to the gallery contents.

Smart galleries
When you open a smart gallery, Portfolio automatically searches the Portfolio catalog and selects the appropriate assets to display. Smart galleries can be configured to search and select assets for any metadata stored in your catalog. For more information about creating and using smart galleries, see Creating a smart gallery.
Filtering and favorites
Once you add galleries to your catalog, the Filter field 
is displayed above the Galleries list. Enter some text in the filter field to limit the list of galleries.
You can mark frequently-accessed galleries as Favorite galleries; move the mouse pointer over the right end of the gallery’s entry in the list and click the star 
icon that is displayed. Favorite galleries are listed alphabetically above all non-favorite galleries.
