This section covers what you need to do to get your Portfolio system up and running.
If you are upgrading an existing Portfolio system, see Upgrading.
Confirm that the system you will use with Portfolio meets or exceeds the system requirements (see System requirements).
Install any prerequisite software (listed along with the system requirements).
Update the system settings to work with Portfolio. See Server access for details.
Install Portfolio and restart the system if required. See Install Portfolio.
Start Portfolio Administration by double-clicking the icon installed on the desktop.
Log in using the administrator account. The initial password is password.
Click Status, click Activate Portfolio with your Extensis credentials, enter your License Administrator’s Email and Password, then click Set Account. See Licensing Portfolio.
Once you have activated Portfolio, here are other areas you should configure immediately:
Administrator password: You should change the password for the Portfolio Administrator account. Click Users, click administrator, enter the new password, then click Apply.
Directory Services: If your organization uses an Active Directory server to regulate user access to network resources such as email, you can configure Portfolio to use the same service. This lets users connect to Portfolio using the same credentials they use for network services. See Configuring Active Directory.
Single Sign-On: If you have Kerberos authentication enabled on your Directory Server, you can configure Portfolio to use this service also. When a user logs in to their workstation, Portfolio will log the user in with those same credentials. Click Global Settings, then click Single Sign-On Credentials. Enter the Account and Password for the Service Principal Name, then click Apply.
Server Data Locations: By default, Portfolio stores its data on the boot volume of the system it’s installed on. If this volume has limited space, then you should consider changing the following storage locations, all accessed under Global Settings. See Server data locations.
AutoSync folders: You can specify whether Portfolio will automatically create a default data folder for Watch Folder catalogs, and where Portfolio creates these folders. (You can set the creation and location of this folder on a per-catalog basis.)
Previews folder: You can specify whether Portfolio creates preview images and clips for cataloged media, and where Portfolio saves the preview files. (You can set the creation and location of this folder on a per-catalog basis.)
Temporary Work folder: This is where Portfolio stores temporary files, such as completed jobs that a user hasn’t downloaded. The space required for these files can be large, so you may want to place this folder elsewhere on the server or your network.
Portfolio Vault folder: The vault holds all the data and assets for all your Vault catalogs, so it can become very large.
